Chaturshringi Temple: Pune's Hilltop Goddess
She stands on a rocky ridge with eighteen arms and a gaze that seems to take in the entire city — and every year, during Navratri, hundreds of thousands of devotees climb to seek her blessing.

Chaturshringi Temple — dedicated to Chaturshringi Devi, a fierce form of Goddess Parvati — occupies a dramatic rocky outcrop known as the Chaturshringi Hill on Senapati Bapat Road in central Pune.
The goddess, depicted with 18 arms each holding a different weapon or sacred object, is considered the Gram Devi (presiding deity) of Pune city. She is believed to protect the city and grant strength to the devoted.
The Temple and Its Setting
The route to the main shrine passes through a covered staircase of approximately 90 steps, lined with flower sellers, prasad stalls, and devotional shops. The central shrine houses the idol of Chaturshringi Devi, depicted in deep red with elaborately crafted ornaments. Adjacent shrines honour Saraswati, Kali, and Lakshmi.
The hilltop offers one of the most dramatic views of central Pune — particularly during early morning or evening when the city lights create a glittering carpet below.
Navratri at Chaturshringi
The temple transforms completely during Navratri, the nine-night festival celebrated in October. Over nine nights, hundreds of thousands of devotees flood the temple. The management runs queues at all hours. The air smells of flowers, camphor, and coconut.
Special aarti (ceremonial fire-worship) performances take place at 5 AM and 10 PM — the most atmospheric moments of any visit. Tickets for seated sections during Navratri are issued separately.
Whether you climb for devotion or for the view, Chaturshringi rewards the effort — in serenity, in beauty, and in the particular peace of a goddess who has watched over this city for centuries.
